Health & Safety in Photography

I take health and safety seriously and always ensure risks are managed effectively when working on location, at events, or in public spaces. My approach is based on careful planning, safe working practices, and adapting to changing conditions.

Risk Assessment & Planning

  • Before every shoot, I assess potential risks like trip hazards, unstable surfaces, or poor weather.
  • At events or public spaces, I check the location in advance, follow safety procedures, and work in low-risk areas.
  • I adjust my setup as needed to keep myself and others safe.

Safe Use of Equipment

  • I keep my camera gear, tripods, and lighting well-maintained and check everything before use.
  • If using drones, I follow CAA regulations and conduct a risk assessment beforehand.
  • To reduce hazards, I avoid trailing cables and use portable, PAT-tested lighting where needed.

Working with the Public & Vulnerable Groups

  • I create a safe, relaxed environment when photographing children, elderly individuals, or people with disabilities.
  • In crowded areas, I position myself carefully to avoid blocking access or causing disruptions.
  • I make sure participants feel comfortable and clearly explain what I’m doing.

Lone Working & Personal Safety

  • If working alone on location, I share my schedule with someone and check in after the job.
  • I stay aware of my surroundings, especially when carrying equipment, and avoid unsafe areas.

Emergency Preparedness & First Aid

  • I carry a basic first aid kit on all shoots.
  • I know the emergency procedures for venues and events and always check exit routes.
  • I prepare for weather risks by checking forecasts and dressing appropriately.

Ongoing Monitoring & Compliance

  • I regularly review my health & safety practices to stay compliant with best practices.
  • My work is covered by public liability insurance.
  • If any incidents occur, I document them and adjust my approach to improve safety.

By planning ahead, staying adaptable, and being mindful of risks, I ensure my photography is safe, professional, and responsible.

GDPR Compliance & Data Protection

Handling images and personal data properly is something I take seriously. I follow GDPR regulations to make sure data is stored securely, used lawfully, and that people’s rights are fully respected.

1. Secure Storage & Data Protection

  • All digital files are stored securely on encrypted, password-protected systems.
  • I keep backup copies to prevent data loss but delete files securely once they’re no longer needed.
  • Files are only kept for the agreed retention period, then permanently removed.

2. Rights to Access, Change, or Delete Data

  • Anyone photographed has the right to access, amend, or request deletion of their images.
  • I have a clear process in place to handle these requests quickly and efficiently.
  • Clients are always informed upfront about how their images will be used.

3. Consent & Ethical Use of Images

  • I always get signed consent forms before photographing identifiable individuals, especially for children, vulnerable people, or public events.
  • Consent forms clearly state where and how images will be used (e.g., social media, marketing, print).
  • These records are securely stored and fully auditable to ensure compliance.

4. Data Transfers & External Processing

  • Personal data is not shared outside the UK/EU unless specifically agreed with the client, and only with the right legal safeguards in place.
  • If images are stored or shared via third-party platforms, I only use GDPR-compliant services like WeTransfer Pro or encrypted Google Drive.

5. Records & Compliance Checks

  • I keep a data processing log to track consent, storage duration, and access records.
  • My GDPR policies are reviewed regularly to ensure they meet current legal standards.
  • I carry out periodic security checks to make sure data protection measures remain effective.

By keeping everything clear, secure, and compliant, I ensure my photography work respects people’s rights while maintaining professional standards.
